According to the Florida Building Code (FBC), the primary difference between a re-roof (specifically a roof recover) and a roof replacement is whether the existing roofing materials are removed down to the deck.

  • Roof Replacement is the complete removal of existing roof coverings, repair of the substrate (decking), and installation of a new roof system.
  • Re-roof (Roof Recover) is the process of installing a new layer of roofing over an existing, prepared roof covering without removing the old materials.

Professionally installed metal roofs are not significantly noisier than traditional shingle roofs when it rains. While the sound is slightly different, studies show that rain on a metal roof only measures about 52 decibels, compared to 46 decibels for asphalt, a difference too small for most people to detect.

No.

Metal under direct light will heat up only on the surface. It does not RETAIN heat.

Most metal roof colors have  “Solar Reflectivity Index.” The higher the number, the better the roof will do in reflecting the heat.

This all helps reduce the amount of heat absorbed by your roof and transferred to your home. Which helps lower cooling costs and a more comfortable home.
